Economic developers spend lots of time getting to know site selection consultants. To help you in that regard, we're inviting several members from the Hickey & Associates team to answer questions designed to shed light on who they are and how that uniqueness is reflected in their work. This month, we're spending time with Jason Rancadore, Principal with Hickey & Associates.
"What is one thing you are deeply passionate about, and how do you express that passion in your life?"
I have always enjoyed sports and music. My playing days are somewhat behind me but supporting my kids as they show interest in baseball, gymnastics, golf, and playing the guitar/bass is fun.
"What is a belief you once held that you no longer do, and what changed your perspective?"
The realization that not everything is the same where I live compared to everywhere else in the US or even the world. Whether it be the weather, culture, transportation, housing developments, etc. Growing up you assume everywhere else is the same as where you grew up, but it is not even close.
"If animals could talk, what do you think your pet would say about you?"
Unfortunately, I do not have pets anymore. Frankly I would be petrified to hear what my Border Collie would say about me. Odds are she would say that I didn’t walk her or play with her enough, even though I did it quite frequently. But that is a border collie for you.
"What are some of the most common misconceptions people have about your field/role, and what would you like them to know instead?"
That we are transactional, meaning that we are only concerned with closing the project and moving onto the next one. While I can’t speak for everyone in this industry, that is not the case with my projects. I want to ensure the value for the stakeholders is there.
"What are the most important skills or qualities someone needs to be successful in your role?"
Thinking outside of the box. Not just taking something at face value but try to see what is possible beyond what you are seeing. Sometimes what you see is what you get, but sometimes you can see what the real possibilities are beyond that.
"What do you think is the most important invention or discovery humanity has yet to make?"
Growing up in the 80s and 90s still a little surprised that we are not on other planets yet. Some of the movies take place years that are now in the past (i.e. 2001) and there is a colony on Mars or some other galaxy and yet the best we have done is put a rover on Mars.
"What is one thing you hope to learn about yourself in the next five years?"
That is a good question. We will see in five years.
"What is one thing most people don't know about you that you'd like to share?"
That I have an identical twin brother. We are considered mirror twins.
