1. What is one thing you are deeply passionate about, and how do you express that passion?
Most recently I’ve gotten passionate about cooking. It’s exciting being able to experiment with new recipes and explore diverse cuisines. Sharing meals with family, friends, and my neighbors is one thing I enjoy doing and has created some great memories (and food!). Hopefully I’m able to inspire others to try new things and enjoy cooking on their own as well.
2. What belief did you once hold that you no longer do, and what changed your perspective?
Growing up I always believed that I could continue snowboarding as intensely as I did when I was a kid. Unfortunately, as I’ve gotten older, I get sore and injured much easier than I used to. For the most part, I just focus on enjoying the slopes and friends that I’m with. No more half pipes for me!
3. What are some of the most common misconceptions people have about your field/role, and what would you like them to know instead?
One of the most common misconceptions about site selection is that only larger companies should be using site selectors. Companies of all sizes can significantly benefit from a strategic site selection approach. Whether you're a startup or a mid-sized business, careful consideration of a company's short, medium, and long-term strategy in choosing a location can have a drastic impact on a company’s success. Taking a strategic approach to site selection is a valuable tool that can help businesses of all sizes achieve their goals more effectively.
4. What are the most important skills or qualities someone needs to be successful in your role?
Curiosity and drive. When working with clients and partners you are often working across diverse industries in different markets and varying requirements so you are always learning new things.
Curiosity and drive are essential qualities for success in site selection. Since you’re always working with clients and partners across a diverse set of industries and markets it means that you’re constantly encountering new challenges and learning opportunities. This requires a genuine curiosity to understand different businesses, market dynamics, and operational needs. It’s crucial to be driven since site selectors need to be persistent and proactive to navigate complex project requirements and deliver innovative solutions. Both of these qualities help you stay ahead and consistently exceed client expectations.
5. What is one thing most people don't know about you that you'd like to share?
One thing most people don't know about me is my passion for music. I grew up playing classical guitar and clarinet, and learning to play these instruments has been a significant part of life. I was fortunate to be a part of the UCF Wind Ensemble, where I had the opportunity to perform with extremely talented musicians. I also taught guitar when I was younger, sharing my passion for music and helping the community explore music.
6. Bonus Question: What’s the best meal you ever ate (or something regarding food)?
The best meal(s) I’ve had is dim sum, especially when enjoying with my entire family. While dim sum’s small plates are always delicious, it provides a great opportunity and environment for everyone to get together as a family.
